India - Motorized two-wheeler is also recognized as a solution - We just picked this up via LinkedIn from Eric de Seynes the Chairman of Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. and President of IMMA (International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association), from his visit and speaking in India at events regarding the decarbonization policy determined by the motorcycle industry. He states, "India is intelligently positioning itself on an approach open to multiple technical solutions mainly oriented towards electric mobility in the city for individual vehicles and public transport, and the … [Read more...]

Ukraine It Has To Do With Us!

5th March 2022 by Motorcycleminds 13 Comments

Ukraine – What can we say about the war and invasion that is happening right now in Ukraine? Should we give our thoughts and feeling as motorcyclists and as Motorcycle Minds – what has it got to do with us? Well yes, we should give our thoughts, even though we haven't commented on other wars and disasters, man made or not, this time it appears to be different and it is not because of social media 24 hour news repeats showing the death and destruction. As motorcycling commentators, we didn’t believe it to be our remit to write about the conflicts in the Middle East nor … [Read more...]

WHO Would Have Thought

27th January 2022 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

WHO Would Have Thought - motorcyclists are not vulnerable road users. On October 6th 2020, the IfZ conference was held online. Normally this conference is held every two years in Cologne (Germany) together with the INTERMOT motorcycle show. After the prelude and introduction, the conference commenced with a "Round Table" moderated by Antonio Perlot, General Secretary of ACEM. The participants included industry and rider organisation representatives. However the real star of the show was Nhan Tran from the World Health Organisation (WHO). He was absolutely brilliant in … [Read more...]

Clutter of Road Safety Reports

26th November 2021 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

As motorcyclists, we are regularly blighted with the opinions of "Road Safety Experts". In general these "experts" are from academia, civil service, government agencies and so forth. Overwhelmingly, only a small minority have ever had the joy of actually riding a motorcycle. YET! they have opinions about motorcycle safety. The latest document to join this long list of badly researched, short on evidence and lacking in knowledge, is from the World Bank. At Motorcycle Minds, we are privileged in that we are not obliged or beholden to anybody. Thus our opinions are … [Read more...]

Win This Global Race

1st April 2020 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) - We have to win this global race together - The FIM says that it has an important role to play during Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in terms of educating and informing riders around the world how to behave in a correct and responsible manner. Exactly what we have been saying that although riders should follow their government advance, which may or may not include enforceable social self isolation, riding a motorcycle is not social isolation, it is not physical exercise as interpreted. To emphasize what we have … [Read more...]

Impacts Industry COVID-19

31st March 2020 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

Europe - Global - Impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on the motorcycle sector - The European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) who represent manufacturers of mopeds, motorcycles, three-wheelers and quadricycles (L-category vehicles) in Europe have issued a statement regarding the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. On another motorcycle organisation's page there is a discussion about motorcycle security and what to do to protect your bike. We at Motorcycle Minds wrote about this in 2018 and again in 2024 - the article is still worth a read. ... See MoreSee Less
