United Kingdom – Decarbonisation: MCIA and NMC to Work Together on Industry and Government Action Plan

The Motor Cycle Industry Association and the National Motorcyclists Council have announced today that they have agreed to, “Work together as the joint action plan for government and industry on zero emission motorcycles and other L-Category machines develops.”

“The NMC and its individual members will work with the MCIA as part of the ‘UK Motorcycling’ forum which has been set up by the MCIA as part of the industry’s commitment to create a formal L-Category community to engage government in relation to the action plan; ‘The Route to Net Zero’.

NMC Executive Director Craig Carey-Clinch said: “The NMC’s members are delighted to be working with the MCIA as the Action Plan develops. Decarbonisation is the fundamental issue of our times and with the wide range of issues and potential technologies that are in play in the drive towards net zero, riders will be able to provide key inputs to MCIA as work develops in this area.”

“Partnership on joint issues of concern between riders and industry has been an NMC aim from the start and we are looking forward to discussing key issues with industry on such a fundamentally important issue.”

MCIA Chief Executive Tony Campbell said: “Following the launch of the industry Action Plan, MCIA was tasked with setting up a stakeholder forum to ensure the involvement of all relevant organisations.”

“This forum will be referred to as ‘UK Motorcycling’, its objective being to coordinate and monitor the delivery of the Action Plan as the sector works towards a successful outcome with Government on its net zero agenda.”

“Following our recent meeting with the NMC (representing its members), we are pleased to advise its support and involvement in this new forum, along with other key stakeholders that have already committed.”

BMF Chair, Jim Freeman said, “The BMF, as part of the NMC, look forward to a close working relationship with the industry, as represented by the MCIA. While the interests of Riders and the Industry do not necessarily coincide on every issue, with the great issues of the day, particularly de-carbonisation, we need to work closely together.”

Motorcycle Minds Comment – This is a master class from all those involved to bring the motorcycle lobby together as one voice, it is diplomatic cohesion!

On another motorcycle organisation's page there is a discussion about motorcycle security and what to do to protect your bike. We at Motorcycle Minds wrote about this in 2018 and again in 2024 - the article is still worth a read. ... See MoreSee Less

Once again, London is the centre for chats about motorcycle theft. In 2018 there was a Pow Wow held with Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and the motorcycle industry.
