Full Kontroll – Full Control

10th March 2017 by Motorcycleminds 4 Comments

Norway – “Full Kontroll” – Full Control a book from the Nowegian riders organisation – Norsk Motorcykkel Union – NMCU – which looks at the overall perspective of how to become a good rider has moved from its paper and downloadable pdf versions to a series of films on Youtube

Although the films are only available in Norwegian at this time, the Full Control book – is available in English –  updated in 2013 – the book is written by motorcyclists and includes sections that assess the road, traffic, motorcycles, equipment and accessories.

The language is clear and easy to understand, albeit with some imperfect language in the translation, the manual summarizes the knowledge and experience of the motorcycle community.

Full Kontroll – The Films – Rebooted!

NMCU writes!

The Full Control book has been important for the safety dialogue in the motorcycle environment for more than 15 years. Many young people, however, see such books as a bit old-fashioned, so NMCU decided to make a film of the book.

Now the film is finished and uploaded on Youtube !

A prerequisite for riding safely on a motorcycle is mastering the precise driving technique. A rider must be able to steer, brake and accelerate – those are the three maneuvres it is possible to make with a motorcycle. Good riding technique alone is not enough to become a confident motorcyclist. We could say that riding technique is only a tool to implement the tactical choices a rider must constantly make out on the road.

In order to make the right decisions, riders must have a basic understanding of traffic and some thoughtful strategies.

Motorcyclists must learn the rules of interaction in traffic and run in a way that is predictable for others. And not least: a rider must be honest in relation to his or her own strengths and limitations.

As can be seen, the film is not an action film. On the contrary, the film is slow and thorough, and is primarily intended as a “self assessment” for people who want to become proficient (and happier) motorcyclists. The film is less than 45 minutes long and divided into 27 independent chapters.

In sport, it is stated that a person must carry out at least a thousand repetitions of a technique to sit. So it is with motorcycle riding too: Riders must practice riding techniques and strategic riding elements until they are automated. In this process it is wise to practice the right things, and it is here NMCU hope that the Full Control movie will benefit riders.

Although the film is primarily designed for novice riders of all ages, NMCU believe that even the experienced can benefit from watching the film – if only a nod in recognition to the content.

Full control film is made by motorcyclists for motorcyclists, with financial support from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and If P&C Insurance

If you are at the motorcycle fair in Lillestrom at the weekend it will be possible to have a chat with the creators of the film on NMCU’s lecture stand C01-22.

Background To Full Control

“Full Control” was first released in 2001 and since then, it has been distributed to more than 30,000 Norwegian motorcyclists and has been available to download in English for several years.

Re-issued in 2013 – “Full Control” … everything you need to become a good rider – is for motorcyclists written by motorcyclists and includes a section that assesses the road, traffic, motorcycles, equipment and accessories.

Why was it written?

NMCU’s own research showed that people died in single -vehicle accidents because they had never “really” learned how to ride a bike.

In many cases collisions are caused by a sequence of events and/or a combination of causation factors.

NMCU say that, “The reward for those who take the trouble to read “Full Control” is getting more fun out of each ride and increased safety at the same time.”

    Hello,

I am contacting you in a personal capacity.

Would you be happy to let me make a version of the film with English voice?

I think it would very useful for riders who are learning to become advanced riders here in England, both with IAM Roadsmart* and elsewhere.

I would submit to you for approval of course.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    *website below for your information.

    Many thanks

    James Hubbard

Excellent production, is the Full control film available in English as I would like to recommend it to student riders here in Ireland to help prepare them for advanced rider test.

Europe - The Motorrijdersactiegroep MAG (MAG Netherlands) where lining up to go to Brussels regarding the mandatory Road Worthiness Testing proposals by the European Commission that would effect them!

They state: "We were in the starting blocks to drive to Brussels in April for a massive APK protest - but now the Transport Council has spoken out against the plans of the European Commission."

"The most important part of that statement is that the current exceptional measure for a mandatory motorcycle inspection remains: member states may - subject to conditions - therefore continue to abstain from a motorcycle APK."

"Of course, that also applies to the Netherlands: our government doesn't want such an inspection at all."

"On the above news, everyone cheers that the inspection here is definitively done, but an agreement has yet to be reached."

"So don't celebrate too early. But as one of our European experts noted with an extremely British wink: "It's good to know that Europe (the commission, the parliament, etc.) doesn't like to engage in unimportant matters. And it's certainly good to know that motorcyclists are insignificant. "

"So we have good hope.
