Global – We have been reporting on The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride – www.gentlemansride.com – for the last couple of years which sees riders across the globe raising funds for prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
Now the problem (if you can call it a problem) is that The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is open to those who ride classic & vintage style motorcycles and to dress accordingly in a distinguished gentleman or lady manner!
However, to get around that “problem” the team behind same organisers of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride set up “We Ride Sunday” – www.ridesunday.com – an international day of riding for a cause.
How in its second year, We Ride Sunday takes place on the first Sunday of June annually (SUNDAY 3rd JUNE 2018), the ride is open to all motorcyclists and scooter riders regardless of bike style or riding preference, be it on-road or off-road.
We Ride Sunday states, “Any rider with a motor and two wheels is encouraged to participate and raise funds for a charity of their choice by either joining a certified dealer ride, hosting their own ride, or joining an existing group ride.”
Mark Hawwa, the founder of Ride Sunday, truly believes that motorcyclists are the world’s most charitable people. “Nearly every ride that riders take part in is based around a good cause. What we aim to do is to bring together charities, causes and manufacturers, in order to create an event that is going to change the world”.
Ride Sunday is expected to be the world’s largest motorcycling charity event by the year 2020. The event’s goal is to raise $500M USD for charity within the next 10 years.
Ride Sunday also says that it has, “Invested heavily in this event, providing charities a platform to raise much needed funds. Participating charities pay a fee to Ride Sunday to cover its costs associated with running this event. This fee will not exceed 20% of the donations received by the charities (comprising Global Administration & Fees 6%, Event Growth and Development 6%, Ride Sunday Fundraising Initiatives, Global Media and Marketing 8%).
We have a goal of reducing this fee year-on-year as the event increases in size and more funds are raised. We have the ultimate view to have all administration, development and marketing exercises covered by brand sponsorship deals, allowing for maximum return to our charities.”
To take part in “We Ride Sunday”, you need to check out the website for the details of runs in your country or area. You can utilise the Ride Sunday “peer-to-peer fundraising platform” to raise funds for the cause that have been chosen to be supported, there are significant rewards and prizes for the highest fundraisers globally.
The event is supported by Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, REV’IT!, Triumph Motorcycles, and Royal Enfield.
The passion behind “We Ride Sunday” is that, “Motorcyclists value life; they feel it every time they drop into first gear and open throttle. This is their opportunity to raise funds for the lives that truly need it; to give people a chance, to invest in humanity, redefine global fundraising and rewrite the perceptions of motorcyclists.
We may be thousands of miles apart, from hundreds of different cities, and speak multiple different languages, but there’s one that we share – a love and desire to support those in need.
Our vision is for every street in every major city to be packed with motorcycles. For one day, I want riders to be impossible to miss. For the world to see our numbers, to notice us, and to see that there is more than just a rider beneath the helmet.”
Founder Mark Hawwa also said that, “The event taps into the global passion for riding, and is aimed to motivate those who own a bike to ride for change.
“Motorcycling is in our DNA. There is nothing else like it. No matter what riding niche you fall into, Ride Sunday is a day for you.”
