Motorcycle Diaries

9th July 2018 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

Motorcycle Diaries: it’s all about discovery – With motorcycling there are always places to go and people to see whether that is a planned trip or just a journey to follow your nose.  However sometimes we might just need a little help.

Step forward  Motorcycle Diaries  where riders can discover the best European motorcycling roads and share and discover the riding gems and POI’s (Points Of Interest) of fellow riders.

The Motorcycle Diaries idea goes back to 2008 and is based on two fundamentals – as they explain:

“Firstly, our job: photo and video productions for the automotive industry and roaming the roads of Europe to find the most amazing roads for the latest car and motorcycle commercials; for many years we have come across many amazing roads but were unable to ride them ourselves. Frustration seeped it. We wanted to ride these roads!

By 2008 we had a personal road library filled with enough roads to map out the most amazing road trip through Europe we could imagine. We thought it would be gentlemanlike to share these roads with people that do have time to ride them…

Secondly: a little annoyance. In times where we had the time to ride Europe’s great roads, the internet did not provide us with what we were looking for. We did not find anything that would match our dreams and help us to plan our trips. Routes and GPX-files, yes, but scarcely documented and most of the time not in the direction that we were aiming for…

Combining these 2 led to this great database, a rider’s haven, with the best riding roads; an inspiration for people who seek free riding based on peer-to-peer road sharing.”

Off course we don’t know all the roads. We do know, from our productions that local knowledge is the best, so we are inviting everyone that owns a bike and has some great roads in his private gps to share these roads on the platform so that every user of the platform learns about the best riding roads in Europe and can combine these roads in trips that are tailor made to the interests of each of them…”

It’s All About Discovering

The Motorcycle Diaries platform, provides riders with information on the best European riding roads; magnificent pictures and a map-planning tool that allows subscribers (which is free) to organize their road trips and create their unique Motorcycle Diary.

By sharing their most memorable roads to Motorcycle Diaries, it has the objective –  for motorcycle adventures riders – to turn the website into the largest European database of (yet-to-be-discovered) roads and POI’s and the largest European Riding Community.

Motorcycle Diaries say they are the only one of its kind and will be available in – at least for now – 5 languages: English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.

You can browse most of the site without an account; however, to share content with the community and create trips you will need an account; this allows you to edit your own data and access information relevant to your biking profile.

Motorcycle Diaries provides its subscribers with roads, POI’s and a tool to connect the dots; adapt journeys to personal wishes and subscribers can upload their roads and itineraries.  It also provides riders with an in-house developed itinerary-app that allows riders to save favourite journeys, stops and create their own personal Motorcycle Diary.

The Trip tool allows you the rider to create a whole itinerary from start to end and include your preferred roads. It is also possible to plan daily stops; the tool will calculate the riding distance per day. After saving your trip you can download the complete itinerary as a GPX file, automatically organized per day.

There is a monthly competition for the best road submissions. Each road submission with pictures automatically enters the competition.

And the prizes are a set of Bridgestone tires, an Arai helmet, a complete Motul pack, and REVIT gloves or boots.

A Memorable Trip

Motorcycle Diaries focuses on the community feeling, it is where you can connect with other members, share your roads and stories, discover amazing roads, endless landscapes, hidden places, distant horizons, meet kindred spirits and find inspiration for future road quests.

Whether you are a lone rider or prefer the company of others, whether you enjoy the travel more than the destination, trying Motorcycle Diaries can be a fantastic way to help you follow your nose!
