Biker Safety Cards Re-Launched

11th February 2019 by Motorcycleminds 1 Comment

Northern Ireland – Great news from the BMF – British Motorcyclists Federation in Northern Ireland – Biker safety cards re-launched.

A safety initiative for motorcyclists has been re-launched in Northern Ireland during the NI Motorcycle Festival at the Eikon Exhibition Centre in Lisburn.

Called Biker NI Safety Cards, the free cards are intended to help protect motorcyclists in the event of a road traffic collision.

Motorcycle users can record vital personal details such as their medical history on the card. It is then inserted inside a helmet to be used by medical professionals as a reference in the event of an emergency.

A detachable sticker that states “Do not remove helmet” also alerts responders at the scene of a crash and reminds them not to force off the rider’s helmet until paramedics arrive.

Sponsored by JMK Solicitors, the updated cards are supported by the British Motorcyclists Federation, NI Fire and Rescue Service, Air Ambulance NI, Road Racing Ireland, Bike Safe, NI Ambulance Service and Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Managing Director of JMK Solicitors Maurece Hutchinson said: “When approached by Howard Anderson from the British Motorcyclists Federation to help get the cards back into circulation, we were only too glad to get involved. We would encourage all motorcyclists to pick up a card and apply the sticker from the card to their helmet and carry the card at all times.”

To order cards for you or your group please get in touch via admin@bmf.co.uk or Howard Anderson on (+44)07918 903497 or email eadaoin.mccann@jmksolicitors.com or call 028 9032 0222.

Europe - The Motorrijdersactiegroep MAG (MAG Netherlands) where lining up to go to Brussels regarding the mandatory Road Worthiness Testing proposals by the European Commission that would effect them!

They state: "We were in the starting blocks to drive to Brussels in April for a massive APK protest - but now the Transport Council has spoken out against the plans of the European Commission."

"The most important part of that statement is that the current exceptional measure for a mandatory motorcycle inspection remains: member states may - subject to conditions - therefore continue to abstain from a motorcycle APK."

"Of course, that also applies to the Netherlands: our government doesn't want such an inspection at all."

"On the above news, everyone cheers that the inspection here is definitively done, but an agreement has yet to be reached."

"So don't celebrate too early. But as one of our European experts noted with an extremely British wink: "It's good to know that Europe (the commission, the parliament, etc.) doesn't like to engage in unimportant matters. And it's certainly good to know that motorcyclists are insignificant. "

"So we have good hope.
