FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) – We have to win this global race together – The FIM says that it has an important role to play during Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in terms of educating and informing riders around the world how to behave in a correct and responsible manner.
Exactly what we have been saying that although riders should follow their government advance, which may or may not include enforceable social self isolation, riding a motorcycle is not social isolation, it is not physical exercise as interpreted.
To emphasize what we have already said:
In simple terms: The virus infects and kills – it does not discriminate. When this is all over, people who were selfish, with no consideration of the wider population will be remembered.
Best to make sure it’s not the motorcycling community – No?
Riders – motorcycle riders – motorcycle clubs – motorcycle organisations – have the opportunity to do something worthwhile for society, ask those who need help e.g. the elderly who can’t get out, care homes, who ever is in need in your community – be an example – get the national members to do the same.
If your in a position to be be able to have the time to leisure ride then maybe there is somewhere you can volunteer to help essential services for those that need it – just a thought.
FIM say that, “By reaching out to the wider FIM family, the FIM is looking to support local authorities as they put in place various safeguards in an attempt to reduce the impact of this pandemic.”
They are using the FIM’s social media channels – ‘We, The Riders’ and ‘FIM-Live’ – the FIM wants to reinforce the global message ‘to stay at home’ via its own campaign #RidersAtHome.
Even though riding is still permitted in some countries – the FIM is requesting that ALL riders keep their motorcycles parked in order to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries that could take up valuable healthcare resources during a period when they are already under great pressure.
The FIM is asking riders both amateur and professional, but also organisers, promoters, partners and Media from all disciplines and from all countries to record their own video messages that can be shared on social media to help spread and reinforce this important message – #RidersAtHome.
