FIM Woman Arabic Countries

27th May 2022 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

The FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) launched on – Friday 20th May 2022 –  what it says is a historical and special campaign to give visibility to the women in motorcycling in Arabic countries.

The campaign which is based on this year´s International Women´s Day theme “Break the Bias” the FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission (CFM) wants to highlight that women all over the world are riding motorcycles and are being active in motorcycling activities.

FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme)

The campaign started from Jordan where local female riders organised a parade and a road safety training session.

The virtual relay of female riders then moved on to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Lebanon where local women raised awareness by riding motorcycles.

Also, Iraq organised their first motorcycle training for girls. The campaign also includes Qatar and Palestine who have expressed their interest to improve the situation of women in motorcycling. Qatar already participated in the International Women´s Day theme with their female officials.

FIM President Jorge Viegas: “For the FIM it is important to show that people all over the world are active in motorcycling no matter what their gender or culture is. We are truly grateful that so many federations have shown their interest to highlight the various activities of women in their countries. We hope that the number of female riders will continue growing globally like it has done during the past few years.”

FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission Director Nita Korhonen: “Women – as well as men – should have the right to follow their dreams and do what they want no matter where they live.

Traditionally in some countries it has not been that common to have female motorcycling riders and that is the reason why we want now break the bias and give more visibility for these role models in various Arabic countries.

I want to express a special thanks to the Jordan Motorsports and to Mr Bater Kardan for this great co-operation idea as well as to all the Arabic countries who joined this very important and historical campaign, which for sure is going to have a major impact in the long run.”

Mr Bater Kardan, Jordan Motorsports: “Under the principles of equal opportunities and women empowerment, we have an obligation and commitment to have an active role in facilitating, encouraging, and assisting women riders to realise their dreams and hobbies and develop their skills and strengthen their confidence while enjoying motorcycle riding for mobility and sports.

We are very proud to have the support of FIM in setting the platform and working along side the other federations to create a footprint and be part of these activities and establish foundations for development and continuity.”

Europe - The Motorrijdersactiegroep MAG (MAG Netherlands) where lining up to go to Brussels regarding the mandatory Road Worthiness Testing proposals by the European Commission that would effect them!

They state: "We were in the starting blocks to drive to Brussels in April for a massive APK protest - but now the Transport Council has spoken out against the plans of the European Commission."

"The most important part of that statement is that the current exceptional measure for a mandatory motorcycle inspection remains: member states may - subject to conditions - therefore continue to abstain from a motorcycle APK."

"Of course, that also applies to the Netherlands: our government doesn't want such an inspection at all."

"On the above news, everyone cheers that the inspection here is definitively done, but an agreement has yet to be reached."

"So don't celebrate too early. But as one of our European experts noted with an extremely British wink: "It's good to know that Europe (the commission, the parliament, etc.) doesn't like to engage in unimportant matters. And it's certainly good to know that motorcyclists are insignificant. "

"So we have good hope.
