India – Motorized two-wheeler is also recognized as a solution – We just picked this up via LinkedIn from Eric de Seynes the Chairman of Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. and President of IMMA (International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association), from his visit and speaking in India at events regarding the decarbonization policy determined by the motorcycle industry.
He states, “India is intelligently positioning itself on an approach open to multiple technical solutions mainly oriented towards electric mobility in the city for individual vehicles and public transport, and the maintenance of combustion vehicles associated with bio-fuels, ethanol 20 and flex-fuels from local agriculture.”
That the, “motorized two-wheeler is also recognized as a solution.” – “thanks to its compactness and low consumption, with a real capacity to integrate new electric (urban vehicles) and green-fuel engines.” – “a Fazer 125 motorcycle running on flex-fuel was presented, already homologated in Brazil.”
So the motorcycle industry is doing what it has been doing, which is that “only” electric powered bikes are not just the only solution to “greener” transportation and forward thinking countries are looking at “green fuel” solutions to an all ready friendly mode of transportation!
The panic about banning new “combustion engined” motorcycles/scooters and mopeds outright has taken over certain motorcycle organisations. This means that riders and others out there are not getting the whole picture.
The industry has been focused on looking at two solutions as mentioned above: electric in urban areas and alternative fuel elsewhere.
The Taliban effect of refusing to accept climate change and thus refusing to accept that there are real solutions to replace ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) has not helped.
As Bill Clinton once commented “It’s the Economy, Stupid!” In other words, industries and countries will always try to look for an economical answer to mobility. India has always been a forward thinker.
We could learn a lot.
