United Kingdom - Once again, London is the centre for chats about motorcycle theft. In 2018 there was a Pow Wow held with Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and the motorcycle industry. Back then, Sadiq Khan told them it was vital that manufacturers help defeat motorcycle-related crime. The industry replied that they didn’t have a silver bullet – which according to them, seemed to be what was required. Now on February 26th 2024), a meeting will be held at London's City Hall with the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, a senior Metropolitan Police Officer and Motorcycle … [Read more...]
India – Recognized As A Solution!
India - Motorized two-wheeler is also recognized as a solution - We just picked this up via LinkedIn from Eric de Seynes the Chairman of Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. and President of IMMA (International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association), from his visit and speaking in India at events regarding the decarbonization policy determined by the motorcycle industry. He states, "India is intelligently positioning itself on an approach open to multiple technical solutions mainly oriented towards electric mobility in the city for individual vehicles and public transport, and the … [Read more...]
A Cosmic Plot
British Voluntary Motorcycle Organisations and the Cosmic Plot - In her book entitled ‘Risk and Blame’, Mary Douglas summarises trust within voluntary organisations and pressure groups and how threats are dealt from within. She argues that “the cosmic plot provides an idiom for bringing hidden hostilities into the open. At one point the threat of being accused controls and at another point it fuels factional discord, allowing the social unit to get rid of elements it cannot contain peacefully. In all these cases, disasters, natural and man made, trigger the enquiries … [Read more...]
Initial Rider Training for Motorcyclists
Initial Rider Training (IRT) is the key element to motorcycling. Recent publications and reviews tell us that wearing an airbag, having a gadget to inform you that there is another vehicle approaching as well as other warning signals and technology may improve your chances of survival. There is also mention of post licence training to hone your skills. But there is almost no reference to initial rider training. In its wisdom (?) the European Union gave member states the option of testing or training for novice riders in order to get their A2 licence when the 3rd Driving … [Read more...]
Flogging a Dead Horse
The ITF report "Monitoring Progress in Urban Road Safety" 2022 update - pdf 4.14mb or..... Flogging a Dead Horse! The ITF authors of this report can spin these fatalities with other factors, so not only billion kilometres travel or population or even how many riders have a licence and how many bikes are registered for use etc, but what is possibly more relevant than these trends or extrapolation of figures, is that they do not explain the reasons behind the collisions that lead to injuries – slight, serious or a fatality, because as we all know, each road traffic … [Read more...]
We Are Still The Boat Rockers and Freedom Fighters!
I discovered a short while ago that I had been accused, although not directly, in the most insidious manner of being bought at different times by the European Union with a corrupting affect and cosying up with them via European rider projects. As an employee, representative to a riders organisation in Europe for nearly ten years, these accusations cover people I have worked with in this role, all those that had gone before whether employed or volunteers and some that are still part of this riders group in Europe. Having been involved with these projects which promoted … [Read more...]
ICE Battle Ground and Net Zero
United Kingdom – the UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) i.e.the UK Government, defies motorcycle riding citizens on when to end/ban the sale of internal combustion engined (ICE) Powered Two Wheelers (PTW) and only have motorcycles powered by electricity. The DfT has issued a consultation which clearly states in its title, content and foreword by Trudy Harrison MP and current Minister of State for Transport, explaining when to end the sale of new non-zero emission L-category vehicles, “It is therefore important that L-category vehicles do not remain fossil fuelled as the … [Read more...]
