MOTO GP - Innovation is the mother of invention for motorcycles, where innovation on the race track will most times make it onto our road bikes. For those whose motorcycling mixes support for racing, who will know what we are taking about, the Grand Prix Commission has decided that, "with effect from the 2017, the use of aerodynamic wings in the MotoGP class will be banned. Wings that comply with current technical regulations may continue to be used for the remainder of the 2016 season." The amended FIM Regulations state, "It is not permitted to add any device or shape to … [Read more...]

Never Heard Of Him
Ryan Reynolds? Never heard of him! Apparently he's an actor and been in some "tremendous" films. I don't get out much and when I stay in it is apparent I don't watch his films. But it looks like he has experience of riding a motorcycle, as the article on this website lists in the 15 things you didn't know about him: 15 Things You Might Not Know About Ryan Reynolds The first one is that, "When Ryan was on a motorcycle trip, he stopped on the side of the road to relieve himself. Is the glass half full or half empty?
An interesting article from the AMA - American Motorcyclist Association (see article below) has appeared on the FEMA (Federation of European Motorcyclist's Associations) website with FEMA’s General Secretary Dolf Willigers and FEMA board member Maria Nordqvist from SMC Sweden offering advice to American riders. You should all know me by now, I can be pedantic to the extreme where issues about motorcycling are concerned. But reading the AMA article I just wonder if the glass (of motorcycling in Europe) is half full or half empty. Wayne Allard, AMA vice president of … [Read more...]
Hi-Viz In France
France - Reposted from our previous publication on the subject on Right To Ride EU. Straight from the website of the French Riders Group – FFMC – regarding the end of their government plans for riders to wear hi-viz sees the proposal watered down and transposed into law for riders to carry a hi-viz vest on/in their motorcycle and other vehicles – three-wheeled motorized or non bodywork motor quadricycle. The hi-viz should have a CE mark certifying it meets regulations – however we assume that if as a visiting rider to France you will be required to carry hi-viz equipment … [Read more...]

Europe - The Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations FEMA reports that during the summer they carried out mobility tests in various European cities using a combination of different modes of transport. FEMA’s conclusion is that if you want to save time and money – use a bike! However London as a major European city is not included in this mobility test which is surprising considering its size. Right To Ride would have welcomed the opportunity to get Belfast as a capital city involved with all modes of transport – motorcycle, moped, car, public transport … [Read more...]
Mystery of EN1317-8
United Kingdom - On Thursday, June 16, the CEN (European Committee for Standardization) technical committee on road equipment (TC226) held its annual meeting in Stockholm. The draft standard for a road restraint protection system for motorcycles (EN1317-8) was on the agenda. At the meeting, the committee chose to opt for a Technical Specification, which seems to have caused consternation amongst some motorcyclists. In fact the General Secretary of FEMA (Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations) commented “What will be done with this Technical Specification is a … [Read more...]
