London Riders – Survey

11th March 2020 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

London - 2WheelsLondon are calling all London riders – what driving behaviours pose an immediate threat to your safety? That’s the question being asked by the latest 2Wheels London competition, which launched on the 9th March 2020. To be in with a chance of winning a £100 voucher for either JD Sports, Amazon or Infinity Motorcycles (runner up prizes of £50 and £25 are also available) – riders must complete a very short survey. The survey asks riders to pick whether they strongly disagree, disagree, agree or strongly agree on whether the following driving behaviours … [Read more...]

London Emissions Flawed Modelling

11th April 2019 by Motorcycleminds 7 Comments

Transport for London (TfL) has repeatedly claimed that individual motorcycles can be highly polluting and has used this logic in part to charge pre Euro 3 (i.e. pre 2007) motorcycles £12.50 a day, which don't measure up to emission standards in the newly introduced Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in central London. The Motorcycle Action group - MAG - has however challenged this view and has provided sound evidence that this "logic" is flawed. Ditching its usual rhetoric MAG has come out of its corner, demanding that TfL produce evidence to back this claim that pre Euro … [Read more...]

MCIA – ULEZ – Seeking Exemption

8th April 2019 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

As we recently previously reported today - Monday 8th April 2019 - sees the introduction of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in central London. Our previous report - London – Critical Measure For ULEZ Exemption - looked at what riders needed to do to meet requirements that would exempt them having to pay the £12.50 24 hours per day - every day, £62.50 per working week (five days if you are lucky enough), £3250 per working year, emission charge to travel in central London. The Motorcycle Industry Association - MCIA - have today issued a press release relating … [Read more...]

London – Critical Measure For ULEZ Exemption

2nd April 2019 by Motorcycleminds 8 Comments

London – The ULEZ – Ultra Low Emission Zone - comes into effect in central London, the same area as the current Congestion Charge on Monday 8th April 2019.  This will see riders and drivers having to pay a daily charge of £12.50 for motorcycles and other vehicles within this ULEZ emission zone. The basics of this charge is that if a vehicle does not meet a certain level of “friendly” cleaner emissions then they have to pay this charge.  Those that meet certain emission levels are exempt from the charge. We had commented which motorcycles would not have to pay the … [Read more...]

Mutual Concession London Emissions

16th December 2018 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

London – Since we published the details contained in the results of the - Who Rides London? – survey we haven’t published many updates on the plans from Transport for London (Tfl) to introduce a ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) in the city where certain motorcycles (Powered Two Wheelers – PTWs) are to be charged £12.50 per day, the same as all other vehicles that do not meet the emissions target set by TfL. The survey was a study to identify specific issues relating to PTWs which fall within the Euro 3 emission standards (PTWs manufactured from 2007 onwards) or … [Read more...]

Thieves Aghast At Tactical Contact

24th November 2018 by Motorcycleminds 4 Comments

United Kingdom – London – Metropolitan Police - Finally dispelling the myth that those using/stealing scooters and motorcycles will evade police if they remove helmets when being chased, the Met Police held a briefing on their “tactics” for disabling moped/scooter/motorcycle linked theft. At the briefing in Scotland yard on Friday 23rd November, one might say a sort of a Black Friday for two wheeled enable thieves, police chiefs warned that there is no maximum speed for police cars to hit mopeds, and that it is a common misconception among moped thieves that officers … [Read more...]

Who Does Ride London!

8th June 2018 by Motorcycleminds 1 Comment

United Kingdom - In March of this year we launched a survey to riders which asked the question – Who Rides London? The aim of the survey – hidden cleverly in the title – was to identify motorcycle, scooter and moped riders who typically commute to work or study in London, to determine the typical riders’ profile and the type of bikes/scooters/mopeds travelling in these areas. The reason behind the survey was that a ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) is being planned for introduction in London with motorcycles to be charged £12.50 per day, the same as all other … [Read more...]
