Doctor Who – Motorcycle

16th July 2017 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

Time Travelling  - That's the tennis well out of the way at Wimbledon and the promise at the end of the men's final that the BBC would announce who will be the next actor to play the Doctor in the BBC's Doctor Who series, fulfilled. My last forages into Doctor Who as a pre-teenager, with a black and white telly, was watched like thousands of others, from behind the sofa. A bit more modern and in colour, I remember the introduction of Davros, leader and creator of the Daleks. Apparently those of a certain age like myself will remember this,  along with various … [Read more...]

15th July 2017 by Motorcycleminds 5 Comments

London – In a long spree of motorcycle enabled crime on mopeds, motorcycle, scooter and moped thefts have come to a head with the latest reported barbaric acid attacks in London – five attacks in ninety minutes in one night by two teenagers - victims having their mopeds stolen – and 24 hours later a further report of a rider being attacked with a “noxious substance” in an attempt to take the rider’s moped. (As acid attacks appear to becoming a weapon of choice, a piece from Biker & Bike - Safety advice on bike jackings with acid) We take a look at social media … [Read more...]

Hanoï – Vietnam - According to the “latest” news hitting the internet news stands, Hanoi’s city council approved a decision to “banish" Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs – Mopeds – Scooters – Motorcycles) from the downtown city streets of Vietnam’s capital Hanoi by 2030. Does Size Matter?

3rd July 2017 by Motorcycleminds 1 Comment

France - Does Size Matter? Well in the world of French motorcycles and number plate size apparently size does matter. Even though  our semi-permanent base is now in France, our interest in following motorcycle technical issues still abound, so we do pick up what must be the most continuous changes of rules and regulations, through legislative decrees, from the Ministry of the Interior, all which appear to be in constant flux. Our interest in this is also slightly self-centred as we start the process of permanently importing our UK registered bike to France, starting … [Read more...]

A Future Of Driverless Vehicles

29th June 2017 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

United States - Washington DC - Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) - Here in Europe there are major concerns with the role of Driverless/Automated vehicles and their interaction with Powered Two Wheelers (PTWs - Motorcycles - Scooters - Mopeds) not just from rider groups, about their actual and experimental use on public roads. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) in the United States reported recently that legislators  and the private sector, (made up of academics, attorneys, policymakers, researchers, regulators) examined and raised questions about regulations, … [Read more...]

Norway And Taxing Emissions

27th June 2017 by Motorcycleminds 1 Comment

Norway – The Norwegian Motorcycle Union (NMCU) - formed in 1972 and the sole organisation looking after the interests of Norwegian road-riding motorcyclists – reports that its government has added to the CO2 (Carbon dioxide) emissions fee which will lead to a dramatic increase in tax on some new models from motorcycle manufacturers. The Norwegian government’s new budget sees the government introduce a CO2 component in the calculation of a one-time emissions fee (purchase/import/registration tax) from 1st July 2017 for motorcycles in line with the system for cars. This … [Read more...]
