Italy - Riders throughout Europe organise themselves to save motorcyclists from injury or death when they crash and impact crash barriers by mobilising to have Motorcycle Protection Systems (MPS) – underrun guard rails fitted to crash barriers at identified crash barrier sites. In this case, Italy. Recently we reported on the not for non-profit organization MEHRSi  from Germany which has the aim to significantly reduce the death rate and the degree of injury among motorcyclists/cyclists by having the “safety barriers” of all curves, that are dangerous for motorcyclists, … [Read more...]

Germany – For us at Motorcycle Minds one of the pieces or systems of road infrastructure that we have reported on and have been involved from a rider’s perspective are Vehicle Restraint Systems – Crash Barriers – in all their forms and in solutions to protect riders with the installation of Motorcycle Protection Systems (MPS) to original barrier systems. Over the years we have seen road infrastructure authorities struggle to accept the “danger” that road side and central reservation barriers present to riders including their placement and types of barrier systems. This … [Read more...]

12th July 2019 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

Scotland - Breathtaking Roads - The Devil’s Beeftub - In June 2018 we highlighted and featured a series of short films showcasing Scotland’s breath-taking motorcycle routes. This was part of a motorcycle safety campaign in the Live Fast, Die Old Breathtaking Roads series, which focused on Scottish riders and those visitors from beyond Scotland’s borders. The campaign highlighted the top risk areas for riders - bends, junctions and overtaking - in a bid to help reduce fatalities on Scotland’s roads. Now the campaign is back with its dedicated microsite and engaging … [Read more...]

Europe - The Motorrijdersactiegroep MAG (MAG Netherlands) where lining up to go to Brussels regarding the mandatory Road Worthiness Testing proposals by the European Commission that would effect them!

They state: "We were in the starting blocks to drive to Brussels in April for a massive APK protest - but now the Transport Council has spoken out against the plans of the European Commission."

"The most important part of that statement is that the current exceptional measure for a mandatory motorcycle inspection remains: member states may - subject to conditions - therefore continue to abstain from a motorcycle APK."

"Of course, that also applies to the Netherlands: our government doesn't want such an inspection at all."

"On the above news, everyone cheers that the inspection here is definitively done, but an agreement has yet to be reached."

"So don't celebrate too early. But as one of our European experts noted with an extremely British wink: "It's good to know that Europe (the commission, the parliament, etc.) doesn't like to engage in unimportant matters. And it's certainly good to know that motorcyclists are insignificant. "

"So we have good hope.
