Mutual Concession London Emissions

16th December 2018 by Motorcycleminds Leave a Comment

London – Since we published the details contained in the results of the - Who Rides London? – survey we haven’t published many updates on the plans from Transport for London (Tfl) to introduce a ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) in the city where certain motorcycles (Powered Two Wheelers – PTWs) are to be charged £12.50 per day, the same as all other vehicles that do not meet the emissions target set by TfL. The survey was a study to identify specific issues relating to PTWs which fall within the Euro 3 emission standards (PTWs manufactured from 2007 onwards) or … [Read more...]

Thieves Aghast At Tactical Contact

24th November 2018 by Motorcycleminds 4 Comments

United Kingdom – London – Metropolitan Police - Finally dispelling the myth that those using/stealing scooters and motorcycles will evade police if they remove helmets when being chased, the Met Police held a briefing on their “tactics” for disabling moped/scooter/motorcycle linked theft. At the briefing in Scotland yard on Friday 23rd November, one might say a sort of a Black Friday for two wheeled enable thieves, police chiefs warned that there is no maximum speed for police cars to hit mopeds, and that it is a common misconception among moped thieves that officers … [Read more...]

Ethanol Not A Smooth Blend

7th September 2018 by Motorcycleminds 2 Comments

United States – UK – Europe - Most of the time when writing about an issue, because of our background we have a very workable understanding or lead on the topic. However sometimes we rely on those who have an understanding on the issue which the subject of concern in this case, is Ethanol in petrol. Ethanol is essentially grain alcohol produced from crops, that is mixed with gasoline to produce an ethanol-gasoline blend motor fuel. In 2012 as Right To Ride EU we reported the concerns from riders and their representative organisations  in the United States - Ethanol – … [Read more...]

Automated – Include Motorcycles!

26th August 2018 by Motorcycleminds 1 Comment

United States - Most rider organisations, federations, club groupings and the motorcycle industry have adopted a position or voiced concerns, or are working on how motorcycles and their riders are becoming increasingly affected by the introduction of vehicle assist systems which are leading towards the aim of fully automated vehicles. In February of this year we ran an article entitle Self Driving Cars – The Same Concerns which looked at the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) from the United States when they raised their concerns with their lawmakers regarding automated … [Read more...]

CCM Spitfire Flying International

22nd August 2018 by Motorcycleminds 4 Comments

CCM - Clews Competition Machines – When somebody reaches out from behind the walls of their HQ, to share their exciting news, then here at Motorcycle Minds it is only not just polite but also interesting to report on their news, especially as they mention that they are setting their sights on overcoming European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. We have heard of CCM, we knew it was a motorcycle company in England that produced motorcycles, but we never had any reason to take notice until now. We knew CCM was an iconic name though not knowing what the CCM initials stood … [Read more...]

Tyre Safe Motorcycle Campaign

28th June 2018 by Motorcycleminds 4 Comments

United Kingdom - A couple of riders we know have posted up pictures on their social media pages, of their motorcycles' rear tyre with a screw/bolt embedded in the tyre. Both riders, one from the UK and one from France, replaced the rear tyre because of the position of the object. As if by magic Tyresafe's motorcycle campaign - Don't Chance It Change It - supported by TT Legend John McGuiness, comes along. "Don’t chance it, change it", focuses on the message that it’s safer to change your tyre than repair it, a sentiment supported by McGuinness. “There’s absolutely … [Read more...]

Theft – Rearranging The Deckchairs

7th June 2018 by Motorcycleminds 2 Comments

UK – The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) has announced the launch of a new motorcycle & scooter anti-theft security “star rating” programme. This is designed to recognise and highlight to buyers which anti-theft devices are fitted or supplied as standard on new motorcycles and scooters. The new rating scheme will be known as ‘MCIA Secured’, presented at the Home Office, the initiative has been developed, according to the MCIA, in response to the rise in motorcycle and scooter theft and the significant increase in scooters being used to enable further crime, … [Read more...]
